Frequently asked questions

When is capital gains tax zero on property in Pakistan?

For filers, the FBR capital gains rate falls to 0% when the property has been held for more than 6 years. There is also no CGT when there is no gain — if the sale price is not higher than the purchase price, no capital gains tax is payable.

Does capital gains tax apply to inherited property?

Yes — selling inherited immovable property can still attract capital gains tax. The gain is generally measured from the property’s value at the time it was inherited. Valuations and exemptions differ by case, so confirm the position with a tax consultant before you sell.

What is the difference between filer and non-filer CGT rates?

This calculator uses the FBR filer slabs, which are the lower rates. Non-filers and late filers face higher or different rates, so this estimate will not apply to them. Check the current FBR rates or speak to a tax consultant if you are not a filer.
